Plans are being made to build Hawaii’s first Alzheimer’s Dementia Center (HADC). Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementia affects millions of Americans annually and this number is growing. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and it is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States today. Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias are progressive – degenerative neurological diseases that decrease the brain’s ability to function.
There are 27 Alzheimer’s Disease Centers on the mainland but no such center exists in Hawaii. The HADC will provide the people of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim access to the best care available today for patients diagnosed with dementia. It will also be the leading source for physicians, researchers, scientists, and other health care professionals to collaborate and conduct life-saving research necessary to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease.

The plan is to have Hawaiia’s first Alzheimer’s Disease Center located on Oahu with satellite offices on the neighbor island. We are currently in the process of looking at land sites.
